Forbes.com Article Asks "Alaska: Caribou Commons Or America's Lost Ace?"

In a Forbes.com article published on August 3, 2010, Joel Kotkin, featured speaker at the recent AEDC Investor Luncheon, asks whether current reactions to the gulf disaster and the agenda of environmental groups can lead to Alaska becoming a "Caribou Commons." The "Caribou Commons" term is based on a proposal by Frank and Mary Popper's  to turn the Great Plains into a "buffalo commons" with the area being evacuated of its citizens and left to the buffalo, Native Americans and grasslands.  Article available here.

More jobs forecasted for Anchorage
The Anchorage Economic Development Corp. is forecasting higher employment numbers for the city. Last year, Anchorage saw employment numbers fall for the first time since 1988, although the drop was small compared to the rest of the country. At an annual investor luncheon Wednesday, the AEDC revealed a mid-year update on the Anchorage economy. It expects a turn for the better, with more jobs in Anchorage over the next three years. AEDC Releases 2009 Annual Report

The Anchorage Economic Development Corporation released its 2009 annual report at the second quarter 2010 Board of Directors meeting on May 12th, 2010. Copies of the report are being mailed to all AEDC investor companies. The report summarizes AEDC accomplishments and highlights from the year as well as key economic indicators for the city and AEDC financial data. Download the report, here.
